Saturday was World Clean-Up Day.
And we at Lula Isandla took to the streets of Mpophomeni again - we spent the first week of the holidays cleaning up around and about the centre, sorting the rubbish for re-cycling with Wildlands as part of our Eco-School Environmental Club activities.
Fakazile and I were thrilled at the excellent turn-out in spite of the children doing the same the day before with their teachers. We had, as always, much fun, then something to eat and drink, and with a donation from UniLever via Foodbank, the children went home chuffed with their efforts.
Our thanks to both organisations for their support.
UPDATE: The initiative was a community wide initiative; 544 volunteers collected at least 872 bags of litter! It was started by the Duzi Umngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT). You can read more about them on their website. And here is an article, published in the Howick Village Talk about the clean up.
