What is Lula Isandla?

Lula Isandla means 'Reach Out' and It all began when Claire and Fakazile met. Here is a brief description of what Lula Isandla does, and after that is Claire's version of how it all started. (If you want to go straight to Claire's story, now is your chance...)

Lulu Isandla provides support for vulnerable children. These are children who have been left without parents due to HIV/AIDS, alcohol and drug addiction, or basic abandonment.

The intention of Lula Isandla is to identify those children in the community who are most in need, and provide them with a midday meal on school days.

These children, who deal with so many practical issues on a daily basis, such as doing homework, washing themselves and their clothes, cleaning their homes as well as cooking, are very vulnerable to being under- and/or mal-nourished. By providing a meal it would help by lessening their burden and giving them a bit more energy to cope. Currently, it costs R2.71 per meal to feed a child one meal.

This all started when Claire and Fakazile met; read Claire's story. And the funds began to flow in rapidly when William sent out the first email.

This project was initiated from the Zenzeleni Community Centre in Mpophomeni in December of 2007. Please visit the Mpophomeni Tourism Board's website to find out more about the region.

Fakazile Mchunu

Fakazile runs the community centre. Her modus operandi is to set up projects, ensure that they are running smoothly, and then pass them on to someone else to manage on a day to day basis. She then moves on to the next necessary project.

Lula Isandla is one such project.

Here is how to contribute.
